Paul M. Baars (born 1949)
A free-lance graphic designer in Amsterdam. He received his degree in design from the Royal Academy of Fine and Applied Arts in The Hague.
While working in New York City as a designer, Paul photographed in 1972 his first manhole cover. Since then he travelled extensively and photographed many 'streetobjects'. He now has many different series. One of them consists of a few thousand slides of manhole- and handhole covers. Some of them were used as the basis for printing silkscreens.
The silkscreens by Paul M. Baars have 3 layers of color, printed on white textured paper. The actual printing was done in co-operation with master-printer Rolf Henderson.
